Star Foundation continues to help NGOs in need
Despite the challenges presented by the Covid-19 pandemic, Star Foundation continues with its humanitarian efforts, providing aid to 13 NGOs to support their projects.
A total of RM255,000 was distributed to the 13 recipients based in the Klang Valley and Kelantan by the charitable arm of Star Media Group (SMG).
The monetary aid is part of Star Foundation’s initiative to donate a total of RM405,000 to 21 deserving NGOs nationwide.
SMG chairman Datuk Fu Ah Kiow said many NGOs were facing difficulties getting funds and donations from companies amid the pandemic.
“We fully understand the current situation and lack of funds from corporate sponsors for these NGOs to finance their activities.
“Many companies and corporations are also suffering in the current economic fallout, having to cope with declining revenue.
“Likewise, we are also facing similar challenges. But we are still committed and will continue to help deserving NGOs as best as we can,” he said during the presentation ceremony at Menara Star here yesterday.
Yayasan Orang Kurang Upaya Kelantan (Yokuk) chairman Datin Suliana Shamsuddin Alias expressed their gratitude to Star Foundation for the generous donation.
“We really appreciate this financial aid. It is not easy to organise events to raise funds in the present situation.
“This aid will help us organise medical camps for those suffering from stroke and cerebral palsy,” she said, adding that some 5,000 people were still waiting for assistance from them in Kelantan.
Lighthouse Children Welfare Home vice-chairman Jacinta Vinodha Kumari said the RM20,000 contribution would go a long way towards helping the home to pay for the children’s school fees, tuition fees and food.
“We feel very blessed to receive this donation as we have been through a lot of hard times during the movement control order period. The children will definitely benefit from this,” she said.
Zero Waste Malaysia co-founder and director Khor Sue Yee also thanked Star Foundation for the assistance.
“A lot of NGOs are suffering due to lack of public donations and fewer engagements with corporations.
“So, this donation will definitely help us to support our operations and other costs,” she said.
Other recipients were Suriana Welfare Society, Protect and Save The Children, Science of Life Studies (SOLS 24/7), Pertubuhan Pembangunan Kebajikan dan Persekitaran Positif Malaysia, New Life Community Society, Pertubuhan Kebajikan Orang Tua Yi Xing, Pertubuhan Kebajikan Orang Tua Cacat dan Kurang Upaya Taman Connaught, Pertubuhan Kebajikan USJ Subang Jaya, Persatuan Kebajikan Harapan Selesa Kuala Lumpur dan Selangor and Child Information and Learning and Development Centre.
Since it was set up in 2004, Star Foundation has donated a total of RM19.1mil to more than 300 organisations.
