Star Education Fund offering 241 scholarships
KUALA LUMPUR: The Star Education Fund is offering 241 scholarships worth RM11.4mil with its 26 partners-in-education.
Star Media Group Berhad Group Managing Director/CEO Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai said this will be awarded to deserving students to enable them to continue their studies.
“This is the highest value of pledges we have received so far.
“Education must not be neglected, even for those in need of financial assistance. It is not a reason for one not to pursue their tertiary study,” he said in his speech.
Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh said the Government has always strived to address the financial needs of students by providing scholarships and study loans under the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) for qualified students, but additional support from the private sector is greatly appreciated and welcomed.
“I would also like to convey a heartfelt thank you to The Star for its generosity via the Star Education Fund, which has enabled many talented young people to realise their dreams,” he said in his speech at the opening of the fair.
Since the fund’s launch in 1994, 3,432 scholarships worth over RM101mil have been offered.
The Star’s partners-in-education are Brickfields Asia College; Equator College; Erican College; HELP University; Heriot-Watt University Malaysia; IACT College; Infrastructure University Kuala Lumpur; KDU University College; KDU Penang University College; Kolej Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman; Management & Science University; Methodist College Kuala Lumpur; Multimedia University; PTPL Penang; Saito College; SEGi University & Colleges; Sentral College Penang; Singapore Institute of Management; Sunway University; Sunway College; Sunway College Ipoh; Sunway College Johor Bahru; Taylor’s University; The University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus; UCSI University Trust and Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman.
Star Education Fund manager Susanna Kuan and a PTPTN representative will be speaking on “Funding Higher Education” today from 12.15pm to 1.15pm at Hall 1 of the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.
Three current scholarship recipients are at the Star Education Fund booth to share their experiences and also advise on the application process.
The booth for the Star Education Fund is located at booth number C003 and C004 in Hall 3 at the KL Convention Centre.
