New drive to help welfare homes
It is more blessed to give than to receive.
For that reason, the #DaretoCare campaign, targeted to bolster the growing needs of welfare homes in the Klang Valley, was launched yesterday.
It is a Star Media Group corporate social responsibility initiative in collaboration with SkyWorld Development Group.
“For centuries, the greatest thinkers have suggested the same thing, that happiness is found in helping others.
“The #DaretoCare campaign is aptly timed especially as Christmas is around the corner,” said Wong, who also called on all Malaysians to support the cause.
“#DaretoCare will see the distribution of 50,000 The Star newspapers in collectable brown paper bags at selected areas within the Klang Valley on Dec 17 and on Jan 13,” Wong said during the launch at Menara Star here yesterday.
The public is encouraged to fill the brown bags with gifts they wish to donate or essentials such as household and personal care items, stationery and dry food products.
They can also leave heartfelt and encouraging messages on the back of the paper bag for the recipients.
SkyWorld Development Group founder and group managing director Datuk Ng Thien Phing said #DaretoCare bridges the gap between welfare homes and donors, as they are not required to look for such homes on their own.
The bags can be dropped off at either one of the four SkyWorld property galleries in Sentul, Setiawangsa, Bukit Jalil and Setapak from Dec 18 to Feb 15.
“The donated items will then be distributed to selected welfare homes in the Klang Valley,” he said.
“The #DaretoCare is a creative way to get people to donate. We are very happy to be on board with Star Media Group because one of our core elements is to be innovative.
“That’s why we do a lot of things differently, even charity,” said Ng.
He added that plans to set up SkyWorld Foundation, which will focus on charitable efforts, are also in the works.
