Star Media Group wins 'Company of the Year' CSR Award
KUALA LUMPUR: Star Media Group’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts have received accolades at the CSR Malaysia Awards 2017.
It was named “Company of The Year” in the print media category.
This was largely due to the group’s charitable arm – Star Foundation – for its strong commitment to social welfare.
The foundation’s medical fund programme received special mention for giving aid to the needy who suffer from chronic illnesses by sponsoring one-off medical treatment and care, especially for those in need of urgent or costly treatment.
Present to receive the award was Star Media Group chief operating officer Calvin Kan, who thanked CSR Malaysia for the prestigious award.
“On behalf of Star Media Group, we would like to extend our utmost appreciation to CSR Malaysia for this award. We are truly grateful and will continue to do our part in giving back to the community that has brought us to where we are today,” he said.
“As the people’s paper, The Star features articles of those in need of aid and a call to action for the public to join in and lend a helping hand.
“We also believe that it is our responsibility in making meaningful social contributions to the general public through our CSR initiatives,” Kan added.
Also present to launch the event yesterday was Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim, who lauded the companies involved for their CSR efforts in assisting underprivileged communities.
“I strongly believe that the CSR Malaysia Awards 2017 will set a powerful force in motion.
“Each and every CSR leader present here today plays a role in assisting my ministry in planning and executing effective future programmes for communities in need,” she said in her speech.
The awards was organised by the CSR Malaysia magazine, a free publication under RHA Media Sdn Bhd.
Other notable recipients include RHB Bank, Exim Bank, AirAsia X, AirAsia, Nestle, Bank Islam, KPMG and LBS Bina Bhd.
