The Star Education Fair returns
KUALA LUMPUR: It’s on! The Star Education Fair 2019 will take place at Halls 1 to 5 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre today and tomorrow. It will be open from 11am to 7pm and admission is free.
Quest International University Perak chief operating officer Nicholas Goh said students could make direct contact with the university, which is based in Ipoh, at the fair.
“We bring our lecturers and professors to the fair so students can gain an in-depth understanding of our programmes.
International University of Malaya-Wales vice-chancellor Tay Kay Luan encouraged youngsters to visit the fair where all information can be found under one roof.
“It is a platform for students to discover opportunities that are relevant to their strengths and interests,” he said.
HELP University senior manager Raymond Munesinghe said the fair is a “one-stop shop” for school leavers looking for pathways to gain information and special discounts, such as “registration rebates” on tuition fees, which HELP will be offering.
“It is also a useful platform for institutions to introduce new programmes,” he said.
KDU University College enrolment services manager Jess Lee Chai Ling said school leavers would be able to learn about special promotions such as fee waivers for its foundation programmes, diploma and degree courses, which are only available for the first quarter of 2019, as well as having access to a wide array of programmes.
“Students can meet counsellors, academic staff and student volunteers who will explain what it is like to be a student at KDU,” she added.
The Star Education Fund is also offering 285 scholarships worth RM15.1mil from 32 institutions.
Nilai University returns as a partner-in-education this year.
Since 1994, the fund has benefited 3,908 recipients with a total scholarship value of RM127.4mil.
To be eligible for undergraduate courses, students must be Malaysians no older than 25 years old as of Jan 1.
These scholarships cover a wide range of fields and disciplines, from entry-level courses to undergraduate education and professional studies, and are all bond-free.
Every scholarship application is vetted by representatives from The Star and its partner institutions.
Star Education Fund manager Susanna Kuan will be on hand to answer queries from students or parents about the scholarships.
The closing date for the scholarships is two weeks after the release of the SPM and STPM results.
Applicants will be shortlisted in early April and informed via email, while interviews will be held from April to June.
The talk on the Star Education Fund Scholarship Awards will be held today from 1.15pm to 1.45pm at Hall 1.
Three previous scholars will be stationed at the Star Education Fund booth in Hall 4 (D055 &D056) on both days of the fair to guide students and their parents in the application process.
