World Business Media Excellence Award for SMG
Star Media Group (SMG) has been conferred the World Business Media Excellence Award during the 2023 Global Chinese Economic & Technology Summit (GCET).
The award was received by group chief executive officer Alex Yeow on behalf of SMG here on Monday.
“On behalf of Star Media Group, we are truly honoured to receive the World Business Media Excellence Award 2023.
“Winning this international award is a testament of our steadfast commitment to continuously strive to deliver accurate, unbiased and quality news to our readers, keeping them informed and inspired through our best-in-class content and services,” said Yeow in his speech at the event.
He said as the media industry continues to undergo rapid evolution in today’s dynamic business landscape, SMG believes in investing in innovation and technology into its businesses.
“From a single media channel platform, we have now grown to be one of the leading and innovative multi-channel media groups in Malaysia.
“Nevertheless, we remain dedicated to amplifying the voices that truly matter, while contributing to a more interconnected and sustainable world,” he added.
The two-day summit, themed “Great Reset: Powering Growth, Technology and Regional Prosperity”, brought together a diverse array of thought leaders, business magnates and government officials from around the world.
Organised by The China Development Institute, Shenzhen, and the KSI Strategic Institute for Asia Pacific (KSI), the 2023 GCET featured 50 prominent speakers from Malaysia, Asean, and other parts of the world, who arrived to share their knowledge and insights on various issues affecting the global Chinese diaspora.
“As the world enters a new era of technological advancement and regional cooperation, the 2023 GCET embodies the spirit of progress and collaboration,” said Tan Sri Michael Yeoh who is the organising chairman of summit.
Yeoh, who is also the president of KSI Strategic Institute for Asia Pacific in Malaysia, said GCET focused on the 4Ps – Peace, Partnerships, People and Planet for global shared prosperity.
The 2023 GCET kicked off with opening addresses by former foreign minister Tan Sri Anifah Aman, who is also Invest Sabah chairman, as well as Dr Sok Siphana, Senior Minister of Cambodia.
Also giving an address was Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, who said that in these uncertain times, building and fortifying trust and confidence is vital for maintaining regional peace and prosperity.
“We envision a future where technology propels progress, where our shared growth benefits all, and where regional prosperity is not merely an aspiration but a reality,” he said, adding that this year marked several milestones in Asean-China bilateral relations.
This was followed by an Asean Roundtable session.
Later in the evening, the delegates attended the Sabah gala dinner and awards presentation that highlighted outstanding contributions in various fields, while a special address on business and investment opportunities in Sabah was delivered by Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.
